Innovative Digital Education and Learning-New Mexico
Innovative Digital Education and Learning-New Mexico (IDEAL-NM) is a statewide eLearning program of the New Mexico Public Education Department. In partnership with New Mexico schools, IDEAL-NM offers online courses taught by New Mexico licensed teachers. Courses are teacher-led, interactive and aligned with standards. Students across the state enroll in the IDEAL-NM virtual school for a variety of reasons including, enrichment, expanded access to electives, credit recovery and acceleration and to fulfill the distance learning graduation requirement. IDEAL-NM encourages the use of technology to offer more personalized and college- and career-ready educational programs. Through partnership with IDEAL-NM, all New Mexico schools have access to the statewide learning management system (LMS) and course content at no cost to the school or district.
Projects and Highlights:
- IDEAL-NM has provided districts with a statewide learning management system (LMS) through which K-12 and state agency training courses have been delivered since 2008. Twenty-two school districts (of 89 districts statewide) and charter schools operate independent domains within the LMS, creating branded web portals to access all of the courses offered by IDEAL-NM at no cost. Districts can also create content for their own blended and/or online programs in the LMS. The portals had about 21,000 individual users in SY 2013-14 in addition to the IDEAL-NM course enrollments.
- IDEAL is working with New Mexico Public Education Department to deliver professional development to teachers and principals on state-led initiatives such as Common Core State Standards implementation and blended learning implementation.
