Bradley Mitchell
Director – Office of Virtual Education, VirtualSC
Bradley has been involved with various aspects of online learning, including: teaching, curriculum development and administration since 2006. He began developing and teaching online courses as an English teacher at Bluffton High School in Bluffton, SC. When the state’s virtual education program was piloted in 2007, he began working as an adjunct teacher with the program and continued to develop new online English courses. When legislation was passed to form the program, he took a position as the Training Coordinator to help train new virtual teachers that were being hired to teach for the program on the various technology as well as basic methodologies of teaching in an online environment. After two years, he became the Team Leader for Online Professional Development and began managing the office’s program that offered online professional development to assist teachers statewide in enhancing their classroom instruction with technology while working on renewing their teaching licenses. Additionally, he worked to develop the basic requirements for the state’s online teaching endorsement to help increase the pool of trained and qualified online teachers across the state. In 2012, he became the Director for the Office of Virtual Education and now oversees the implementation of the state’s virtual school program, VirtualSC, as well as the online professional development program, eLearningSC PD. He has worked to rebrand the virtual school program and develop outreach and marketing plans to provide the state’s schools with more information about the program. Bradley has a B.S Degree in Secondary Education English/Communications from Penn State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Lesley University.
